Veneta sits where the western Willamette Valley floor meets the foothills of the Coast Range, approximately 15 miles west of Eugene along Highway 126. The terrain transitions from the flat valley near Fern Ridge Reservoir to gently rolling foothills to the west and south. Fern Ridge Reservoir, a 9,000-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers impoundment on the Long Tom River, dominates the landscape northeast of town and influences local hydrology. Soils in the Veneta area include Willamette silt loams on the valley floor and heavier Bellpine and Jory clay loams on the surrounding hillsides. The proximity to Fern Ridge means that some lower-elevation properties experience seasonally high water tables, which is a critical factor in septic system design and foundation planning.
